"Breadcrumbs?" "Breadcrumbs."

fuckyeahstydia:

so heres the thing about the maze runner

it differs a lot from the book

but dear god does it live up to the book

inquisitories:

i’m going to bed but i just

bleats about nalby until the end of my life

GGGAAAh the nalby was so real. I melted when they had their first scene together in the movie.

Let’s talk about the Maze Runner movie adaption.

Don’t read if you haven’t seen the movie :D

I’m going to start with the characters:

The actors captured them so amazingly well. Some of the side Gladers didn’t have a ton of screen time but their personalities became real in just a few lines they did have. (MedJack, Frypan, Winston ect.)

Thomas, Minho, Chuck, and Teresa were well played, I loved them all. But Alm Ameen made such a great Alby. He was soft spoken but also held the power of the leader so firmly. And you could see humor and kindness come through as well.

Newt also came across so well, Thomas Brodie-Sangster captured him perfectly. He was warm and humorous, worried, annoyed, even angry at times, all while holding power as a leader as well. So great!

Gally was the character that I thought was most different from the book. He was less crazy, less brute force, more stern, and in the movie he slowly developed a reason to hate Thomas. I think that it worked well.

But BEN, that was a lot more heart breaking than I remember it being in the book. It got me when he said hello to Chuck as they were running back in before he got stung.

Thomas and Chuck interaction was a bit less, but the scene where Thomas promises to get Chuck back to his parents was good.

Now for the plot:

It started pretty much the same.

The first time you see Alby and Newt interact, when Alby tells Newt to go find Chuck, made me melt. The nalby was so real!

The scene around the fire was new but great. The interaction between Thomas and Newt was perfect and you got to see all the gladers interacting. And slightly intoxicated Newt with Gally’s weird alcohol? It all made me smile.

After that it was pretty much the same and great. (don’t think this part was boring because it wasn’t).

Then the changes came up.

Changes that I can roll with:

Finding the capsule inside the griever

The search party that went with Thomas and Minho

The different way to get out they found. (It happened a bit fast, but for sake of time it worked. Also that part was mysterious and really intense.)

The maze shifting while they were in it.

The use of more curse words than shank, shuck, klunk.

Thomas and Teresa knowing each other through dreams.

The grievers not picking off one glader at a time when the doors stopped shutting.

Time being cut in spots:

  • How long Teresa’s was out.
  • How many times Thomas and Minho when running together.
  • How long the doors were open before they left.

The exit sign.

All the doctors were already dead.

Getting out in the helicopter.

Changes I found odd, but it didn’t ruin it for me (at all) :

The absence of Homestead, it’s absence created a big problem when the Grievers get inside the walls. It gave the gladers no real place to hide at all.

Why they didn’t have the cure for the changing in the glade from the start.

No beetle blades.

The maps and the code wasn’t a big deal. Figuring out the code wasn’t a crazy realization. Minho had already figured it out.

There was only one door that opened until the end.

Alby was cured for a lot less time, and he was never really shown up and around the glade again.

Alby died waaay early.

A lot less gladers made it out of the maze, it seemed to just be the main group of guys plus teresa.

The odd explanation video instead of finding out with the crank woman.

Changes that drove me crazy, but still didn’t ruin it for me:

THE SKY NEVER TURNED OFF!!! THAT WAS SUCH A SHOCKING MOMENT IN THE BOOOOOOK! I WANTED TO SEE THAT SOOOOOO BAD!!

No use of slint head or good that.

Back to the plot:

After the video was over and the last door opened, at first I actually believed it was over and that Chuck was going to live to see another day. But then Gally showed up. Thomas and Chuck’s last scene together was heart wrenching. The time they spent with Thomas screaming over his body was so devastating. (but i’m ssooo glad it was in there).

Ending Thoughts:

All and all, I say that they did it and they did it well even with the changes. I can’t wait for Scorch Trials, I really hope it gets to be made!
